I met Carmen when she started at Chapman in the midst of COVID. Despite us being online, where it was rather difficult to really get to know students, Carmen made herself known to me and many other faculty in all of the best ways. She was extraordinarily enthusiastic and proactive about her own education from the start. In fact, because her orientation was online and she didn't want to miss a moment of her college experience at Chapman, I had the opportunity to meet her in person for the first time when she chose to attend our Orientation Event for the year AFTER she began. This can-do attitude and work ethic epitomizes Carmen in every role I have seen her in over the past 4+ years as my advisee, student, and eventually, my colleague when she was hired in the School of Communication following her graduation.
In my class, she volunteered to be a team lead and organize a School of Communication-wide event, heading 50+ classmates/volunteers over two different class sections. Her organizational skills, patient leadership, and creativity were on full display. She elevated this event to such a degree that, in the semesters since she first stepped into that role, future groups leading this event have used her ideas, organizational spreadsheets, and advice to continue to build on her efforts. In fact, I am so grateful that I can call her my colleague at the moment because she continues to assist our students with this event and so many others year after year. Although this is not part of her current job description, Carmen will always jump in to help when she sees a need. Her creativity and work ethic have become so well known across our school, and we know we can count on her to jump into any project and take it on as her own. She has such pride in her work that anything asked of her will be a top-notch product.
I hope that I have the privilege of continuing to work closely with Carmen for years to come. However, I know that she will be successful wherever she is- and any organization lucky enough to have her will be better for it.

I have known Carmen for a few years, and in multiple roles/capacities. I actually first met Carmen during an event in which I was promoting a new first-generation program I had developed for our students (the Trailblazers Program) - Carmen introduced herself to me, and we talked for 30 minutes about all of the amazing ideas she had for the program! She almost immediately become involved with it, and even did an internship with me as her faculty advisor in which she supported the program and helped it to become an established part of our School of Communication. This experience is indicative of who Carmen is -she takes initiative, she has original ideas (and the confidence to share them), and is always looking for ways to use her talents and skills to help others. She is an incredible team player and a highly valued member of our organization. Put simply, Carmen is someone you can trust to get things done! She has an incredible work ethic, works very well with others, and has a positive, "can-do" attitude for any project she takes on. She is always offering to help in whatever way she can. Any organization would be fortunate to have someone like Carmen on their side.

My recommendation for Carmen stems from when we had the opportunity to get to know each other at Chapman University through a mentorship program! Without going into all the little details, Carmen always stood out to me as someone with a strong work ethic and was interested in digging deeper to learn more about the "why." She is seeking new ways to improve and do projects/tasks, and I greatly appreciate her willingness to grow in this regard. She taught me a lot about myself, whether she knew it or not, and I will always be thankful for the time we shared getting to know one another.

I had Carmen as a student when she was an undergrad as part of a project-based class. Carmen was on our design team and primarily focused on building our website. I am now in a new role where I have been tasked with building a website and consistently think back to “What would Carmen do/add?”. Her focus on accessible design, eye-catching but simple visuals and layout, and consolidation of resources to make it easy for someone to learn still stick with me almost a year later. Thank you, Carmen, for always putting your heart into your work- it inspires and enriches the world around you more than you know!

Carmen is an amazing asset to any team. She brings forth positivity, fresh ideas, and passion to any work she's doing. Working directly with Carmen, I respect her ability to speak up and use her voice to advocate her thoughts and opinions. She continues to inspire me through all the work she's doing and I can't think of anyone as both empathetic and driven as Carmen.

Carmen has been a valuable asset to Career Beginnings of Orange County’s Mentoring Program, both as a board member and strategic and corporate communication intern. As her fellow board member and then intern supervisor, I have seen firsthand Carmen’s ability to think outside the box and present creative and innovative solutions for student recruitment, engagement and outreach, and program and website rebranding, using her many years in higher education, fashion design, graphic design, and branding. She is a responsive, dedicated, empathetic, and punctual member of the non-profit with a passion for helping others. She excels both in a team and individually and she is self-aware, continuously improving by asking for and learning from feedback. I highly recommend Carmen.

Carmen has been an amazing addition to the AISS team. Her ability and will to achieve the program’s marketing, fundraising, and educational goals has made an enormous impact for the AISS Foundation. When I had the opportunity to work with Carmen during my internship, For training, she would break everything down for me step by step on fulfilling the marketing and fundraising projects.Working with these projects alongside Carmen was a learning experience I always enjoyed for various reasons. I remember when I first entered the internship program at AISS, I felt very nervous and lost because I wanted to comprehend the information and exceed the project goals as quickly as possible. When Carmen took me under her wing, she went above and beyond as a trainer. I knew from getting to know Carmen and her work ethic, she had enthusiasm to help me succeed. Any questions or doubts that I had, She would provide her knowledgeable input as well as the courage and motivation to improve my technical, verbal, and creative skills. She would put in extra time to help with assignments I had delays on to make sure the qualities were up to par according to the AISS standards. One of the qualities I admire about Carmen is her ability to directly communicate effectively and cohesively. Carmen has been known for her organization skills and prioritizations. She always made sure to finish her projects ahead of time before the actual due dates and prioritize what needs to get done. When there is a roadblock, she always finds a solution one way or another. Carmen also has a talent for her creative expression when it comes to marketing and branding. I would notice Carmen’s fantastic work on designing newsletters, fundraising sites, and even rebranding the AISS website and new logo.. She has been working towards her marketing career for years and has proven her expertise on her knowledge to which her feedback is overly valued. During our meetings with our AISS, I would hear positive feedback about Carmen's Marketing skills from a few Marketing consultants/volunteers, including the AISS Scholars. Carmen hosted her Canva class to teach the scholars how to use canva to which the scholars were able to learn and adapt quickly to the new digital design site. Working with Carmen is like having her as a teacher because you learn something new each time. She has a great passion for helping others and making a difference in her community.
